On Monday, August 10, 2026, President Donald Trump and his Administration published a new Executive Order (EO) titled: Delivering Gold-Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations for Americans.
The EO is the Administration’s latest attempt to systematically deconstruct our immunization infrastructure, create distrust in vaccines, and reduce the number of routinely recommended vaccines for children without any scientific rationale.
The EO recommends fundamental changes to our vaccine supply, including the removal of the immune-boosting adjuvant aluminum from vaccines and separating the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine into multiple, individual vaccines. Not only would operationalizing these non-evidence-based supply changes take years of clinical research, but they would increase the number of visits for series completion and reduce the likelihood a child receives all necessary vaccines.
Additionally, the EO continues to tout the idea of the United States shifting to an immunization schedule more aligned with peer nations, an assertion that is misleading.
The U.S. schedule is similar to many other developed nations, and the schedule development needs to consider population size, social determinants of health, complexity of the country’s health system, and the goal of preventing severe outcomes from vaccine-preventable diseases. This move has been condemned by scientific experts who are concerned that it will threaten the lives of our nation’s children.
Our evidence-based immunization schedules, as recommended by professional societies, aim to protect children from deadly infectious diseases. Instead of promoting these evidence-based schedules, the President and the Administration are recommending that states change their immunization requirements and exemption policies which would align with the reduced number of routinely recommended vaccines in the EO.
Vaccinate Your Family is deeply concerned by the Administration’s continued efforts to reduce vaccination confidence, especially given the ongoing measles outbreaks. As of today, our nation has reported more than 2,480 preventable measles cases.
These changes will not make children healthier. Instead, they will continue to deconstruct our nation’s infrastructure, reducing our ability to prevent and control the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, leading to families and communities suffering the consequences of these diseases.
