In January, our SQUAD™ advocates came together with Families Fighting Flu and the American Society for Meningitis Prevention to send a letter to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. requesting a meeting to discuss the real-life impacts of the administration’s vaccine-related actions, including the development of a new unscientific childhood and adolescent immunization schedule in January 2026.
That meeting request was ignored. Since that request, HHS has continued to create confusion in vaccines with decisions like delaying Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meetings and flip-flopping on Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) decision to review mRNA-based influenza vaccines.
For now, pending potential appeals and further litigation developments, the recent immunization policy changes have been stayed by a federal court.
What does this mean?
For now,* the new immunization schedule cannot be implemented and the ACIP cannot continue to meet. This decision is a critical step and is a good outcome for the health of children and communities.
But that does not mean our work is over to return to evidence-based public health policy and prevent further erosion of our nation’s immunization infrastructure.
Because you cannot flip a switch on the impacts of these dangerous decisions, our advocates have come back together with Families Fighting Flu and the American Society for Meningitis Prevention to request a meeting with Acting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya.
Vaccinate Your Family urges our leaders to meet with real people impacted by real diseases to see what can happen if our vaccination coverage rates continue to decline.
